Create an Avatar.
Goal: Create a free Voki Avatar to share information with the class.
Steps:
1. Using the free avatar creator at Voki, "customize a character". Avatars must follow school dress code & behavior rules.
2. "Give it a Voice" using the text tile button (do not use the phone call button without adult permission ~ it is NOT free).
a. Choose a voice that speaks English so the whole class can understand the message. You may change the voice to your native language after Ms. Kelly approves your message.
b. Type in text to have your Voki say what you would like it to say. Begin with your first name & last initial & the title of your project. Then type your information. Creating a Voki can be a cool way to role play a fictional or real historical character who can share information with the viewer.
For example, to use a voki to introduce myself to the class, I could say "Amy K........All About Me....." and then I would tell at least 3 different things about myself (my likes, my dislikes, things I have done, or things I would like to learn more about).
3. Play Back & Evaluate your avatar's voice message for fluency, accuracy, and comprehension. Digital messages are as real as face to face talking. Think about the ways your audience might react (good and bad) to your Voki's message and voice before you post it. Think about who might access your voki outside of our classroom. "When in doubt, throw it out and try again."
Do not have your Voki share personal information (no last name or age).
Do not have your Voki share contact information (no phone numbers, address, or email).
Do not have your Voki say anything you should not say in person, at home, or at school.
4. Share your Voki embed code with Ms. Kelly (send in an email to [email protected] ...or write the embed code on a piece of paper and turn it in at school). Wait for approval before further digital sharing.
