Goal: Connect and dig deeper with a nonfiction story as it relates to your life.
Steps:
1) Select a nonfiction news story at "In The News".
From the home page, pick a category tab (World, USA, Communities, or People) & preview a few story titles before choosing one to read.
2) Read the full article; take the quiz & watch a related video, if available.
3) Reflect on the story in your reading journal (write a summary, ask questions, relate it to something else).

King Peggy Brings Hope to an African Village
Journal Reflection (summary, questions, & related to me)~
"Peggy Bartels was a secretary living in the United States when she learned she would be the first woman king of her family's village in Otuam, Ghana, Africa! With her US contacts, she helped the villagers set up 2 fresh water wells, an honest bank, and a better fishing industry. She now works 11 months of the year from the US and uses her vacation time to go to Africa. I wonder: what community issues are the villagers working on now? Do they have a school?
King Peggy Bartels has inspired me to think about global opportunities to use my skills & resources. I would like to help Otuam, Ghana get water filters in people's homes. I also think about my local neighbors. What issues do they deal with every day? How can I help them?"
